Living with Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is a common and often debilitating condition of the foot found in both male and females. It is also highly treatable.
What are the common symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?
Sharp, stabbing pain at the bottom of the foot near the heel
Pain Increases while standing, walking, or sleeping
What causes Plantar Fasciitis?
There are many factors that can lead to this condition. We have many small bones in the foot that often become subluxated (lost movement in the joints between them) which cause faulty biomechanics that place undue stress on the bottom of the foot. We also have various muscles and ligaments in the foot and lower leg that can be dysfunctional and cause extra stress upon both the top and bottom of the foot. And, misalignments in our knees, hips, and pelvis can lead to plantar fasciitis as well. Most often, all three play some part in the patient developing this condition. Most people will deal with the pain for some time before finally seeking help- unfortunately, the longer we wait, the longer it takes and harder it is for the doctor to fix.
Are there risks factors for developing Plantar Fasciitis?
Absolutely! Some of the most common risks for developing Plantar Fasciitis are listed below. There are things here that are well within our control, like wearing proper footwear and manging a healthy weight.
Obsesity (increase pressure on ligaments)
Exercise (activites tht place a lot of stress on the heel)
Structural Foot problems (i.e. low arch)
Improper Footwear
Tight Achelles
Prolonged Standing
Is there anything I can do to treat Plantar Fasciitis?
Yes! Active Spine and Joint Institute sees many patients for Plantar Fasciitis and we treat it with a combination of Functional Movement, Robotic M6 Cold Laser, Prolozone, Platelet Rich Plasma & A2M Therapy, Pulse Wave Therapy, and PEMF.
Can I do anything between my appointments to keep up my progress?
Yes! There are things you can do at home to help. See the best stretches in the picture below to get started. While these are helpful, for the problem to go away and never come back again, you need to see your chiropractor.
